Euroland is turning into a global problem

The recession in Euroland is deepening. The sentix total index for the Euroland-economy has dropped for the third time in a row and has hit the lowest value since May 2009 at -28.9! Situational and expectational values are equally affected. The development in Euroland is affecting the previous growth motors more and more negatively. Germany, the USA and the global index all drop clearly. This should now challenge the central banks. Low inflation expectations open space for this.

    Euroland in recession mode

Last month's slumps are aggravated: the sentix total index for Euroland falls strongly by 9.80 points to -24.5 points. Especially the economic situation makes no secret of the fact that investors are acting on the assumption that Euroland is heading for a pronounced recession. The German economy is trying to lift itself out of this development, but the economic expectations cannot get away from the minus signs, either. The US economy has also begun to weaken.

    Question marks, again

Investors hardly got used to economic glimmers of hope when a new disappointment appeared from around the corner. In April, after three consecutive rises, the sentix economic index for Euroland slumped. Current assessment and expectations dropped in unison. Current assessment even dropped to their lowest level this year. The question marks over a recession in Euroland are mounting once more.

    Recovery, even in Japan!

The spring revival in the economic data continues in March. We were able to survey a rise in the respective total indices for all world regions. This leads us to be optimistic for the upcoming publication of the OECD Leading Indicator! Even for the buffeted Euroland-region, the sentix total index rises for the third time in a row. Neither rising oil prices, unrest in the Middle-East nor the latently smoldering Euro-crisis were able to sway sentiment at the moment.

The roughly 1000 institutional and private investors surveyed by sentix consider the economic perspectives to be greatly improved. All world regions show positive signs, the improvements in Asia and Euroland are especially conspicuous.

    Glimmers of hope

After the stabilization attempts of the past two months, all 6 world regions were able to improve, now. It is good to see that, in general, economic expectations improve more clearly. In the USA, the total index finally climbs into positive territory again. The same can be said for the sentix Global Aggregate indices, after 5 months in hiding.

Worries around the Euro economies just won't subside

The Euro debt-crisis is leaving deeper and deeper tracks in the real economy. In December, the sentix economic index dropped for the fifth time in a row and is now down to -24 points. Pressure arises from a worsening situation while economic expectations remain unimpressed by the latest support operations by the central banks. It is better in the USA and Germany, but these two have not yet freed themselves of the downturn scenario.

    Euroland is disconnecting negatively

The global economy is able to stabilize itself, but Euroland cannot follow this basic tendency. This is the decisive message for November 2011 from the sentix eco-data collection for the important global economic regions. Even a stabilization of expectations for Euroland is not able to belie that, as they remain at this low level while the assessment of the current situation drops of clearly once more. Following this, the sentix total index for Euroland drops by 2.7 points to -21.2 index points while the USA is even able to gain 6.5 points in the total index.

    Negative overtones continue to predominate

The sentix economic index for Euroland fell once more in October by 3.1 points to -18.5 points. This is the third drop in a row and the lowest value since July 2009. Situational and expectational values lose on par. Especially the expectations of institutional investors slump heavily. The European debt crisis as well as signals of an economic calming off in Asia are the main drivers of this sentiment drop. Accordingly, the Global Aggregate Index drops by 2.3 points to -6.7 points. Looking at the expectational values, the Emerging Markets are the ones losing dynamic from an investor point of view.
