sentix Economic News
According to the sentix economic indices, the German economy is in surprisingly good shape at the start of Sep-tember. The business climate index has risen by a substantial 11.5 points to its highest level since May 2023. The eurozone is also benefiting from the recovery of the eurozone’s largest economy. The sentix Overall Economic Index stands at +5.1 points, its highest level since February 2022. That’s the fifth consecutive rise! Eastern Eu-rope is also showing signs of recovery. Here too, the Overall Index has risen for the fifth time in a row.
Headlines of the month
- The upturn in the eurozone continued to gain momentum in September. The sentix Economic Sentiment Index rose for the fifth consecutive time to 5.1 points. This is the highest reading since February 2022! Current conditions and expectations have risen significantly.
- Germany is also contributing to this improvement. The overall index has risen sharply by 9.1 points, its best reading since July 2025. Current conditions have risen by almost 16 points, whilst expectations have risen by 6.3 points. The elections in Saxony-Anhalt do not appear to be unsettling investors.
- Internationally, the picture is less euphoric. The US is losing momentum, as are Japan and Latin America. The Asia ex-Japan region is just managing to hold its ground. By contrast, the economy in Eastern Europe is performing well. The overall index has also risen for the fifth consecutive time, although a figure of +4 merely signals an upturn.
