Neutral sentiment, weak underlying confidence

As the year draws to a close, sentiment on the stock market continues to neutralise. However, investors' weak underlying confidence remains striking, which does not exactly bode well for a stock market upturn. Medium-term scepticism also dominates the bond market. We are also measuring significant movements in strategic underlying confidence in USD-JPY and silver.

Further results

  • USD-JPY: Sharp decline in strategic bias
  • Silver: Profit-taking likely

How about a nightcap?

How about a nightcap? No, we're not talking about the last drink before bedtime, but rather the current state of strategic bias for many stock markets: already weak underlying confidence continues to decline, and the momentum is quite remarkable. What applies to stocks can also be observed for bonds and bitcoins: confidence continues to dwindle. Only precious metals and the euro are performing well.

  • Bonds: FED interest rate cut met with negative reaction

Overheated sentiment, falling bias

Optimism continues to prevail on the stock markets. At the same time, strategic bias is eroding – especially for European markets. As a result, sentiment and bias balances are shooting up: the TD indices are giving off a series of sell signals. Further trouble is also looming on the bond market: falling bond prices are not generating any resistance. Silver is still struggling with high levels of overconfidence, although the TD indices are providing support.

Further results

  • Bonds: No resistance
  • Silver: Still high overconfidence

Euphoric mood boost in equities

An astonishing optimism is spreading across the stock markets, but it does not seem to be based on a strategically positive outlook. Apparently, the upward trend in equities and Bitcoin is enough to trigger hopes of a year-end rally. This is problematic investor behaviour.

Further results

  • Gold: Stable perception of value, but high positioning
  • Crude oil: Fundamental confidence continues to build

"Fearless" becomes moderate concern

The slide in stock markets has so far only caused moderate concern among investors. This is surprising, especially since some stock indices have sent out rather problematic chart signals. The investor reaction is particularly noteworthy in terms of medium-term expectations: there are striking differences in the expectations of private investors and investment professionals, especially with regard to the DAX. Portfolio adjustments to date have also been modest.

Further results

  • Equities: Different views among institutions and individuals
  • Bonds: Small improvement for US bonds
  • sentix Styles – Risk appetite and investor preferences
